Motorcycle and Quads Action for all ages

The club organises enduro's, off-road racing for motorcycles & quads and Moto X. All these aspects cater for both seniors and juniors. National events in all these categories are organised every year. The National Castrol Winterberg Enduro is the longest running national and has been organised by the club for 32 years.

The club has 300 plus active members and many of these are families where both the parents and children compete. Members meet on Wednesday evenings for noggins and the infamous "Handlebar" pub has been exposed to many a biking story.

"50 years and going strong"

The Rover Motorcycle Club with its home in Skoenmakerskop, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, has a history that spans more than 50 years.

On 13 December 1950, a group of people met at the home of Spencer Millard to discuss the formation of a new motor sport club breaking away from the Eastern Province Motor Cycle Club and so the Rover Motor Cycle and Car Club was founded. The club flourished and on 13 December 1971 the club held a motor show to celebrate twenty-one years. In the early 70's the club moved to its present home on Schoenmakerskop Road and the motor vehicle members broke away to form their own motorcar club. The club's name was changed to the Rover Motor Cycle Club and under the leadership of the then president, Don Wicks, the present clubhouse was built by the members. Subscriptions were R2.00 and life membership was available at R21. The funds were utilised to complete the construction of the clubhouse. The original building (even though extended and modified) still stands today.

Heritage of Champions

The club has produced many South African Champions and its members have also excelled overseas. In 1963 Bernard and Brian Marriner competed in the Isle of Man TT races and earned their Springbok colours. Other Springboks that come to mind are Sarel van der Merwe (rallies and all forms of car racing), Tony Orrey (Trials), Brett Brito, Leslie Slabbert, Rob Wicks and Marc Baxter (Moto X ).

Memberships are due and payable on 1 December of each year. Gate discs will be blocked should memberships not be paid by the last day of February 2009. Remember to fax your proof of payment to the Secretary to ensure that your payment is recorded.
